Choosing your membership type really just depends what you want from the Club!
It's a wonderful social environment with constant events happening and all of our members can bring guests to any event or dining at any time. Under our family membership policy, your spouse will also be included as a member at the same cost and your children (ages 8-18) will become Junior Members at no extra cost.

A Full Membership has the most amount of privileges:

• Moorage
• Vote/hold office
• Foreshore facilities: workshop, tools, oil disposal, ways/haul-out
• Launch ramp
• Ability to keep small boats on floats
• Access  to our 3 outstations 
• Rent club boats
• Free kayaks/paddleboards 
• 143 reciprocal club privileges worldwide and 22 in BC alone
• Room rentals
• Club facilities 
• Subsidized events, food and beverage 
• Free membership for kids under 19
• 15% off sailing lessons
• Free partner membership
• Loads of clubs to join - book club, cycling, bridge, jam sessions, paddling, mingle night, knitting & multiple committees to volunteer on.
• Lots of events going on - comedy nights, pub quiz, movie nights, lectures, fishing trips, island cruising, parties with a live band, themed dinners, weekly racing, BBQs with bouncing castles etc.

Affiliate Membership provides all of the above except:

• No voting rights or ability to hold office
• No dry or wet moorage
• Oil disposal only no workshop or ways
• No outstation usage - this is a real loss if you have a boat and want the usage of it even if you don't keep your boat here.

Temporary Membership spots are limited and are reserved for those who don't know anyone at the Club currently to vouch for them (this is necessary to apply for an affiliate or full membership).  The Temporary membership has a very limited privilege list but is a great step in the door for a 1 year trial period:

• Launch ramp
• Rent club boats
• Club house facilities
• Dining & events
• Room rentals

The cost of a temporary membership is a one time entrance fee of $794.68 and a monthly charge of $121.01. It's a 1 year membership that then would need to move into either a full member or affiliate (or resignation) where you would have to pay the difference in entrance fees at that point in time. 

Junior Membership:
Any children aged 8-18 can be a member for free if their parents are members, however if the parent/s are not interested in joining, then the Junior can apply separately by filling out an application. The proposer and seconder forms are not needed for this category and the perks are more limited:

• 15% off sailing classes
• Use of launch ramp
• Rent club boats
• Reciprocal privileges 
• Use of Clubhouse (no Bar access even for guests)

There are two main components to the cost of being a member: the Entrance Fee, which is a one time charge, and the Annual Membership Dues which are typically paid on a monthly basis.

You may pay half or the full amount of your entrance fees via 3 options:
1. Cheque 
2. Debit Card
3. Go onto your banking app, choose: Pay a Bill, Merchant Name: Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Account Number: 999999 (6 9's) - put your name and "entrance fees" in the description.

Dues are billed monthly. 

If you are 70+ and you've been with the Club for at least 1 year, you can be swapped to a Senior membership, which includes lower monthly dues (Senior Membership not applicable if you have moorage).

Membership Application Process

How to complete your application:

- Choose which Membership Category suits you by viewing the "Membership Privileges" or "Membership Type" drop down to see what you want /need out of your Membership.

- Click on the red button at the top of the page that says "Apply for Membership". Fill out the Membership form with your details. Complete all pages and press submit.

- You must ask two current RVYC Members to fill out forms vouching for you. To do this, press on the red buttons above that read "Proposer Form" and "Seconder Form". These are the forms that you ask current RVYC Members to fill in online. If you do not know anyone at the Club, please choose "Temporary" as your Membership category when applying. If you apply for Temporary Membership, you must still submit both Proposer and Seconder forms, but they can be from a reputable source outside the Club, rather than a current Member at the Club. 

- Ask your Proposer and Seconder to complete and submit their respective sections on the website.

- Submit the appropriate entrance fee for your age category via etransfer, cheque or debit card.  Your entrance fee is determined by the age of the primary Applicant on the day your fully completed application is received by the Club office. You only need to submit one application for you and your dependant (spouse/partner).

Please note that the membership application process cannot be initiated without the Membership Application, Proposer and Seconder form submitted and entrance fees paid.

 What is the Membership Application Process?

1. Your name(s) is (are) placed on an interview list and your application is posted on the notice board at the Clubhouse for members to review (personal information is removed).

2. Membership interviews are scheduled regularly. You will be contacted with the next available date.

3. Members of the Membership Committee conduct interviews in person at the Club, or by phone or video conference as needed.

4. If recommended by the Membership Committee, your application is forwarded to the Board of Directors for election.

5. If approved by the Board of Directors, you will be notified immediately and a New Members Package will be assembled for you.

Waitlist

1. If the current voting membership of the Club exceeds 800, your name(s) is (are) placed on the waitlist and your entrance fee is held in trust until you are elected to membership.

2. Once you have been approved for membership, entrance fees are refunded only under extenuating circumstances. The reasons for a request for refund must be documented in writing for review by the Board.
