The Royal Victoria Yacht Club itself has had a strong link with the Royal Family, ever since 1911, when King George V granted the club its royal charter in recognition of its growth and stature. The connection was reinforced in 1959 when the Duke of Edinburgh’s Dragon, Bluebottle, visited the club. Fast forward to today, Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal acts as The Royal Patron of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club.
The Princess Royal, Princess Anne and Sir Tim Lawrence, visited the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on Sunday May 5th, 2024 to observe youth sailors participating in our Spring Dinghies Regatta. We then received an official letter on May 13th from Buckingham Palace to inform us of Her Royal Highness's enjoyment visiting the club, despite the poor weather!
We would like to thank the Princess Royal, Sir Tim, Buckingham Palace, the Royal Canadian Navy, our committee members, and staff who all participated in making this historic Princess Royal visit possible and in providing opportunities for Her Royal Highness to engage with our members and present awards to our young sailors.
